Reground needs a van
Each week we produce large volumes of both spent coffee grinds and chaff — a papery byproduct of the roasting process. While each of us took home as much as our compost bins could handle, we no choice but to dispose of the rest with our normal rubbish collection.
And then we received an email from Ninna and Kaitlin of Reground.
Reground is a sustainability-driven startup working to divert coffee waste from landfill. Their young business operates a simple but valuable service, placing bins for the collection of used coffee grinds into cafes across Melbourne. Once a week Reground picks up the full bin, drops off a fresh bin, and distributes the collected grinds to end users for composting and reuse.
While signing up for the service, we found out about a crowdfunding campaign Reground had planned.
It’s a challenge to deliver and collect large bins across the city without your own vehicle, which the company currently doesn’t have. To continue on their mission, Reground needs a van, and we wanted to help.
To do so we’ve pulled in support from Cafe Imports and come up with two distinct rewards; one aimed at coffee consumers, and the other at cafes.
. . .
For a pledge of $400 we’re offering consumers the chance to join four other coffee lovers in a half-day coffee roasting workshop, where supporters will learn to sample roast on an IKAWA Pro, evaluate coffee professionally, and roast a full scale production batch. Everyone will go home with 10 x 250g bags of the day’s roast, too.
For a pledge of $3,000 we’re offering a Melbourne cafe an all-inclusive three week coffee roasting programme for up to three staff members. The supporters will have a full Bureaux membership for three weeks, inclusive of basic roast training, espresso and filter quality control sessions, and two hours of guided roasting time with Tim Varney per week.
Cafe Imports have agreed to supply two bags of green coffee, so in addition to the skills you’ll pick up, the winner walks away with around 120 kilograms of roasted coffee to serve or sell, too.
I have to add — there is no prior experience required for this reward.
. . .
We’re excited to be able to support Reground in their mission to raise awareness around the environmental impact of great coffee, and to offer these rewards as opportunities for coffee lovers to learn more about roasting.
The Reground campaign is live now at Pozible, and ends April 2nd.
