Gondo AA, Kenya

Syrupy and complex, bursting with fresh red grape and vibrant plum upfront. A rich frangipane sweetness is accented by orange blossom aromatics.

For our second Kenyan release of the season, we're delighted to welcome this vibrant and juicy coffee to our range. This was the first time we've sampled coffees from the Gondo washing station and we were immediately drawn to their concentration and complexity.

Like most of the coffee we buy from Kenya, Gondo comes to us from farmers belonging to a co-operative society. In this case, around 700 farmers contribute their fruit to the Gondo washing station, owned and managed by the New Kiriti Co-op Society, who improve quality and efficiency by centralising many administration, marketing and support functions for its members.

For those playing the geography game, Gondo is located in Murang'a county; a fertile agricultural area on the slopes of the Aberdare mountain range, nestled between better-known coffee growing regions of Kirinyaga, Embu, and Nyeri to the north, and Kiambu to the south. Personally, we think that many complex and intriguing coffees are grown in Murang'a county, and we're looking forward to sampling more in the future.

We’re finding Gondo AA to be bursting with fresh red grape, plum, frangipane, maple syrup sweetness, and orange blossom aromatics.
